BIO

Professor Anthony Rodgers (MBChB, DPH, FAFPHM, PhD, FAHMS, GAICD) is an NHMRC Principal Research Fellow who trained in medicine, epidemiology and public health and has more than 30 years of experience in clinical trials, public-private partnerships and innovation. CI Rodgers was Director of a leading NZ research institute, directing two successive program grants. He was instrumental in setting up several international research cardiovascular disease collaborations. CI Rodgers was the Principal Author of the 2002 World Health Report, the main annual publication of WHO. He pioneered mHealth smoking cessation field, with over 6,000 patients in clinical trials, and national rollout in numerous countries, most recently via a WHO-led program reaching over 2 million smokers. CI Rodgers led public-private partnerships for polypill development - an international trial program involving 3,500 patients funded by Wellcome Trust, European Union, NHMRC and others. CI Rodgers has been a principal applicant or co-applicant on over 50 successful grants that were awarded over $100m. He has also played a role in securing industry funding on large-scale clinical trials totalling in excess of $50m and been CI on two successive NHMRC program grants.CI Rodgers has also served on 8 Data Safety Monitoring Boards and over a dozen NHMRC clinical trials panels. He brings extensive knowledge of clinical trial design, conduct and analysis to the project.
