BIO
Dr Andrew Ritchie is a clinician-scientist and Medical Director in Early Clinical Development at AstraZeneca, and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London’s National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI), where he is part of Professor Jadwiga Wedzicha’s research group. His work bridges academic respiratory medicine and global pharmaceutical development, with a focus on early translational science and precision medicine. Having completed his PhD at Imperial College London on the mechanisms of exacerbations in early and established chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Dr Ritchie integrates clinical insight with data-driven research and strategic leadership to accelerate innovation in respiratory and immunological therapeutics.
Dr Ritchie’s clinical practice is wide-ranging across the field of respiratory medicine. He gained extensive experience in critical care medicine during his Academic Clinical Lectureship at Imperial College London, contributing to the critical care COVID-19 response at the Royal Brompton and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trusts. He currently holds an Honorary Consultant post at Charing Cross Hospital, where he sees patients with a broad spectrum of respiratory disorders. His clinical interests include COPD, asthma, sleep medicine, unexplained breathlessness, chronic cough, and smoking-related symptoms, reflecting a commitment to comprehensive and patient-centred respiratory care.
