"I study the behaviour of smouldering wildland fires in boreal and tropical peatlands to protect people and the environment".
Dr Mulyasih started her Master of Engineering leading to a PhD Program at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Universitas Indonesia. Her study was supported by the Indonesian Government scholarship program for four years, from 2018 to 2022. Shortly after starting her Master in 2018, she attended and participated in the GAMBUT experimental wildfire campaign in the peatlands of Sumatra organized by Imperial College London and Universitas Indonesia. The Master of Engineering program has a curriculum that gives the graduates with a set of learning outcomes including but not limited to fire dynamics, fire modelling, fire protection system, evaluation and maintenance of fire protection system and dissertation/research project. Her research focuses on smouldering wildfires in the laboratory and the field. During her PhD, she became a visiting student for six months at Hazelab Imperial College London from November 2021 to April 2022. She has just started a position as a postdoc at Imperial College London (UK) in 2023 under the supervision of Prof Guillermo Rein.
One of her recent research achievements is Dr Mulyasih received a prestigious award, The 2022 Frederick W. Mowrer Global Scholar Award for her project “Study of Peat Smouldering Combustion and Suppression Method using an Integrated Experimental Rig at Laboratory-Scale” from The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Foundation.
