BIO

Anton Köllner is an Assistant Professor in Structural Mechanics in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London. Since October 2024, he is the director of the Advanced Structural Engineering MSc Cluster for which he also acts as the examination officer.

In his research, Anton Köllner investigates structural instability phenomena by means of advanced analytical and numerical modelling with applications to structures made from fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composite and homogeneous materials. He is particularly interested in the interaction of structural instability with material damage as well as enhancing structural capabilities by exploiting instabilities to generate functionality or design performance.

Anton Köllner is the module coordinator of the modules Composite Structures (taught to MSc and MEng students) and Dynamics of Structures (3rd year MEng module). He is also a lecturer in the module Structural Mechanics 2.

Anton Köllner has received his Habilitation (Dr.-Ing. habil. / Doctor habilitatus) in Structural Mechanics from TU Berlin in 2024. He holds a doctoral degree (Dr.-Ing./PhD, grade: summa cum laude/with distinction) from TU Berlin (2017). His doctoral work was awarded with the Dr.-Klaus-Körper Prize of GAMM (International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics) in 2018. He holds a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEng(Hons), First Class Honours) from The University of Auckland (2012) and a Bachelor degree from Chemnitz University of Technology (2010).
