RESEARCH

Overview
Prof Kadiric’s research applies fundamental understanding of contact behaviour to address tribological challenges faced by the industry, particularly in relation to efficiency and reliability improvements in mechanical components such as bearings and gears. To this effect, he collaborates closely with a number of engineering companies in the UK and internationally as well as with public funding bodies. Prof Kadiric also leads the SKF University Technology Centre (UTC) for Tribology in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

His research utilises both experimental and numerical methods. Current research topics include: initiation and propagation of rolling contact fatigue cracks pertinent to operation of rolling bearings and gears, influence of electric potentials on surface damage in lubricated contacts, efficiency of electric vehicle transmissions, gear micropitting, hydrogen embrittlement in lubricated contacts, scuffing and fretting damage, EHL film and traction at high speeds, grease friction and film formation, and modelling of rough surface contacts.
