BIO
In my research, I develop mathematical models and Bayesian inference tools for diverse inter- and transdisciplinary projects, with applications spanning from computational biology to environmental conservation. My work is closely integrated with experimental scientists across various disciplines, ensuring models that are both robust and applicable. Currently, as a Senior Teaching Fellow at Imperial-X (I-X) — the university's interdisciplinary initiative in AI — I lead AI-focused teaching for the Eric and Wendy Schmidt Postdoctoral Research Fellows within the I-X AI in Science Centre and contribute to the MSc program at I-X.
Background
I am an astrophysicist by training. My PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics focused on stellar modelling, specifically the turbulent outer layers of stellar atmospheres, where I used multi-dimensional magneto-hydrodynamic simulations alongside stellar evolution codes. This work resolved a long-standing discrepancy between theoretical models and observational data, with the improved models proving highly accurate for solar-like stars in the Kepler survey. I furthered this research during my postdoc at the University of Birmingham, expanding my focus to red giants in later evolutionary phases.
In 2021, I joined Imperial, shifting my research from astrophysics to oncology. Collaborating with research teams from Imperial and UCL, I applied mathematical models to study glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Since then, my work as a research fellow at I-X has extended to other biological systems, including genetic networks in yeast and nematodes. In 2024, I transitioned to my current faculty role as a Senior Teaching Fellow at I-X.
