BIO

Alistair received his PhD in Mathematics from at Imperial College, working in the Systems and Signals group under the supervision of Nick Jones.

During his PhD he worked on the analysis of single cell sequencing data, with an interest in mitochondrial genetics and ageing. In addition to his bioinformatic pipelines, he also developed theory for the accumulation of somatic mitochondrial mutations over life.

Finishing his PhD he stayed working with Professor Jones as a Research associate joint with Professor Patrick Chinnery and the Mitochondrial Biology Unit in Cambridge. This position has allowed him to continue developing statistical models of mitochondrial ageing and allowed collaborations to further study the impact of mtDNA mutations on neurodegeneration.
