BIO
Alyssa Gilbert is the Director of Innovation at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment and the Director of Undaunted, Imperial College London's climate change innovation hub, run in partnership with the Royal Institution. Alyssa leads a team at the Grantham Institute and together with Enterprise colleagues from across the university they run several programmes to develop research, innovations and talent to nurture solutions to tackle the world's most pressing environmental challenges.
Together with the the Dyson School of Design engineering, Alyssa and colleagues are running a Master's in Cleantech innovation from October 2024. This new programme complements Alyssa's other teaching on climate innovation e.g. on our Master's on climate change management and finance.
In preparation for the UK's hosting of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) meeting in Glasgow in November 2021, Alyssa set up and chaired the COP26 Universities Network, a nation-wide network of academics and professionals working to deliver impact on climate change, now still running as the UK Universities Climate Network (UUCN).
Alyssa was previously the Grantham Institute's Director of Policy and Translation and a member of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)’s Advisory Netowrk (NAN), a Member of NERC's Strategic Programme Advisory Committee (SPAG) and a Board Member of the Climate Markets Investments Association (CMIA).
Prior to joining Imperial, Alyssa worked at the specialist energy and climate consultancy Ecofys providing policy design and evaluation services. She covered a range of topics including emissions trading and market-based mechanisms, carbon pricing developments, forestry and REDD , adaptation to climate change and climate finance. She has published a wide range of reports, including the World Bank State and Trends of Carbon Pricing report (2013,2014).
Alyssa has worked on environmental and climate change issues across a range of countries including China, France, Spain Romania, Morocco, the UK and the US. Alyssa has also worked as a researcher for the Deputy Mayor of London and as a journalist on Environmental Policy in Brussels.
