DrAlice Francis

Alice is trained as a basic electrophysiologist working on the circadian control of cardiac pacemaking in Dr Alicia D'Souza's laboratory at the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) at Imperial College London. During her PhD, supported by the British Heart Foundation under the supervision of Professor Kenneth MacLeod and Professor Julia Gorelik, she trained in the application of patch clamp, fluorescent imaging and scanning conductance microscopy to cardiac myocytes. Following her PhD in 2021, Alice obtained a McCusker Foundation Fellowship to work within the electrophysiology laboratory in the University of Western Australia investigating a pre-clinical treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy under the supervision of Professor Livia Hool. On returning to the UK, Alice pioneered the Roving Researcher role at the Laboratory of Medical Sciences and trained in a wide range of laboratory techniques whilst supporting multiple postdoctoral projects during periods of long-term leave. Her outstanding contribution to this role was recognised in a nomination of for the President’s Award of Excellence at Imperial.
