BIO
I hold a prestigious four-year Imperial College Research Fellowship in the Tribology Group while also pursuing a Master of Business Administration (Weekend MBA) at the Imperial Business School. I am actively building my research team and welcome collaborations in areas including frictional contacts, nonlinear dynamics and wave propagation in jointed structures (e.g. ultrasound and solitary waves). I am interested in Energy and Transport industries, e.g turbomachinery.
The primary goal of my work is to advance the understanding of frictional contacts in assembled structures under vibration, a critical aspect for reliable stress and fatigue analysis. My research includes developing innovative methods to measure frictional behavior and studying the resulting nonlinear dynamic responses.
Currently, I am working with solitary waves in metamaterials (granular crystals) to create a novel contact monitoring technique for vibration applications. Previously, during my PhD, I investigated the structural dynamics of aircraft engines, with a particular focus on nonlinear contact interface behavior. I hold degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino and the University of Illinois at Chicago (2017). In 2021, I completed a Marie Curie-funded PhD at Imperial College London, followed by a postdoctoral position funded by Rolls-Royce until 2023.
My work has earned several awards including the "Innovation in Tribology Award" from the Institute of Physics and the "Young Stress Analyst" award from the British Society for Strain Measurement, highlighting my pioneering research in tribology and ultrasound.
I also have entrepreneurial experience as I co-founded a successful startup in the Italian market focussing on the use of AI in fantasy sports. Our main product is fantaculo.it, a web app used by millions of users in Italy who want to boost their position in their fantasy leagues through AI-driven recommendations.
AWARDS
- “Seal of Excellence” awarded in 2024 by the Marie-Curie Horizone Europe for my proposed Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship "Developing a metamaterial-based experimental technique to monitor friction in vibrating contact interfaces".
- “Machines 2022 PhD Thesis Award” issued in Jan 2023 by the Machines MDPI journal for my PhD Thesis great potential.
- “IOP Innovation in Tribology 2021 Award” issued in 2021 by the Institute of Physics for my PhD research achievements in the field of tribology.
- “Young Stress Analyst” (YSA) 2020 competition winner. The YSA is a long running and prestigious competition run annually by the British Society for Strain Measurement to recognize excellence in early career research. Previous YSA winners have gone on to occupy key positions in academia and industry.
- “STEM for Britain” competition, Mar 2020. Selected to present my research at the 2020 STEM for Britain event, which is a high-quality exhibition of posters by excellent early-career research scientists, presenting and discussing ground-breaking and frontier UK research to Members of both Houses of Parliament at Westminster.
- “D. J. DeMichele Scholarship”, Feb 2018, issued at the IMAC Conference held by the Society for Experimental Mechanics. This prestigious scholarship is given every year to one only student for their scholarly contributions.
- “TOP-UIC Scholarship”, Feb 2016, issued by Politecnico di Torino. Scholarship for a double degree program between Politecnico di Torino and the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA.
- “SEC-U scholarship” for studying abroad, Sep 2014, issued by Politecnico di Torino. Scholarship for an exchange program between Politecnico di Torino and the University of Arkansas in the USA.
