Dr. El-Zoka's research aims at understanding how corrosion reactions could be used in a controlled manner to make functional nanomaterials, for advanced catalytic applications.
Dr. El-Zoka obtained his PhD at the University of Toronto, working on the characterization and functional improvement of nanoporous metals, where he set precedent in enabling atomic resolution characterization of Cu-filled nanoporous gold substrates using atom probe tomography (DOI: 10.1039/C7NR08206A).
During his postdoctoral fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung GmbH in Dusseldorf, Germany, Dr. El-Zoka pushed forward method development for atom probe tomography analyses of gas-solid and liquid-solid interfaces. A notable advancement was achieved when Dr. El-Zoka published his findings on cryo-atom probe tomography of nanoporous gold filled with water and sodium chloride (DOI: 10.1126/sciadv.abd6324). These findings effectively brought to light APT analyses of frozen liquid/solid interfaces, now known as cryo-APT.
Dr. El-Zoka recently joined the Department of Materials at Imperial College London, with the aim of starting research activity that combines high resolution cryo-APT characterization and development of cost efficient, high performance nanoporous catalysts.
