BIO
Overview
My research group studies ocean waves and ocean-atmosphere exchange processes using a combination of laboratory experiments, ocean observations and numerical modelling, with a particular focus on wave breaking, air entrainment and bubble-mediated processes.
I joined the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London as Senior Lecturer in November 2017 after having been a Royal Society Shooter International Research Fellow. Before this I worked as a Project Scientist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the University of California, San Diego. Befroe this I completed my Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography in 2009 at the National Univeristy of Ireland, Galway.
Research Group Opportunities
I am always keen to add curious, motivated and hard-working students and researchers with an interest in ocean waves, air-sea interaction and small-scale fluid dynamics to my research group. Please email me if you are interested to start a conversation.
I am currently recruiting PhD students, postdoctoral research associates and visiting researchers who want to work in the following areas:
- The role of non-linear wave-wave interaction in extreme wave formation.
- Space-time statistics of ocean waves with a focus on wave breaking.
- Stereovision observation of ocean waves.
- Numerical/Physical modelling of ocean-atmosphere carbon dioxide transfer and its role in climate change.
- Physical modelling of air entrainment rates in coastal breaking waves with applications in ocean-atmosphere interaction.
- Physical modelling of energy dissipation in directionally-spread breaking waves.
- Direct Numerical Simulations of air-entrainment in directionally-spread breaking waves with Basilisk.
- Acoustics of air entrainment in breaking waves.
- Transport of microplastic particles by bubbles in the ocean.
