BIO
Professor Andrea Buraschi is a leading scholar in Financial Economics, with expertise spanning Asset Pricing, Derivatives, and Financial Econometrics. His research combines rigorous theory with applied insights, advancing our understanding of markets, institutions, and investment strategies.
Professor Buraschi earned his PhD in Financial Economics and Econometrics from the University of Chicago. He has since held academic positions at Columbia University and London Business School, and was Visiting Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business (2011–2013), where he taught in both the MBA and Executive MBA programmes.
His research focuses on five interconnected areas:
- Economic uncertainty and subjective beliefs
- Interest rates and monetary policy
- Hedge funds, incentives, and agency problems
- Financial networks and asset pricing
- Portfolio management and investment strategies
Professor Buraschi’s work has been published in the field’s top journals, including The Journal of Finance, The Journal of Financial Economics, The Review of Financial Studies, The Journal of Derivatives, European Financial Management, and The Journal of Banking and Finance.
He has received multiple international awards recognising his contributions, including:
- 2013 GARP Award (Best Paper in Financial Risk Management) for Monetary Policy and Treasury Risk Premia
- 2012 NYSE Euronext Award (Best Paper in Asset Pricing) for Dynamic Networks and Asset Prices
- 2010 Inquire Europe Award for No Place to Hide: Correlation Risk and the Cross-Section of Hedge Fund Returns
- 2010 Q-Group Award for Macroeconomic Uncertainty, Difference in Beliefs and Bond Risk Premia
- 2006 Inquire Europe Award for Correlation Risk and Optimal Portfolio Choice
- 1999 WFA Award (Best Paper in Investments) for "Inflation Risk Premia"
In addition to his research, Professor Buraschi is recognised as an outstanding educator. He has received “Teacher of the Year” awards for Innovation in Teaching at both London Business School and Imperial College London.
