DrAlexandra Blenkinsop

I am a Research Associate in the Statistics section. I am broadly interested in Bayesian methods and phylogenetics with applications in population health. Much of my research centres around developing statistical methodology to characterise population-level transmission dynamics and estimate epidemiological parameters from genomic pathogen data. I am also involved with more applied studies using longitudinal, clinical, demographic data.

I have collaborated with several partners to inform public health policy, including the HIV Transmission Elimination Amsterdam (H-TEAM) Consortium, the Phylogenetics And Networks for Generalised Epidemics in Africa (PANGEA) HIV consortium, the Botswana-Havard Health Partnership and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

I supervise MSc research projects in Statistics, have taught a module for the Machine Learning and Data Science MSc, and have led the organisation of two short courses in statistics and machine learning, delivered at the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences in Rwanda and South Africa. I am passionate about encouraging under-represented groups to enter the field of statistics, and am involved with outreach activities in the department.
