BIO

Andreia Bernardo is a Research Fellow at Imperial College London. Her research group is based at the National Heart & Lung Institute. The group's work is supported by the Wellcome Trust, the British Heart Foundation, LifeArc and Deep-Tech Prime Imperial College Accelerator. Andreia is also a visiting scientist at the The Francis Crick Institute.
Andreia’s overarching research aims are to understand how the left ventricle heart chamber develops, matures and ages, to develop faithful models for disease modelling, drug discovery, and cell therapy and ultimately to improve patient care.
Andreia’s pioneering differentiation protocol to generate left ventricle specific cardiomyocytes with mature properties from human pluripotent stem cells is key to enable this research.
