After graduating in medicine (UNAM, Mexico), I obtained an MSc in Immunology (Oxon), a DPhil in Genomic Medicine (Oxon), held an MRC CGAT Fellowship in Computational Genomics at the University of Oxford and an MRC Intermediate Research Fellowship in Computational Biology and Epidemiology at Imperial College London. I then joined the Computational Epidemiology and Machine Learning Group with Prof. Marc Chadeau-Hyam. My research interests lie at the intersection of inflammation and genomics. I aim to understand the interactions between our genes and the environment using both wet lab and computational methods. I previously focussed on vitamin D-gene interactions in immunity, and I am now exploring inflammatory endophenotypes using an integrated approach based on data science and machine learning methods. My research leverages the strength of cohort and clinical trial designs with computational and mechanistic studies in order to understand causal roles of genetic and environmental factors in immune and inflammatory disorders. I have previously held various clinical and public health roles in Colombia and Mexico and was a Scholar for Chevening, CONACyT (Mexico), the Ministry of Education (Mexico) and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of the UK. I am a dual citizen of Mexico and the United Kingdom with close personal and professional ties in both countries.
