RESEARCH
Athina’s current research interests lie in in the field of medical student and healthcare professionals’ wellbeing, how clinical work impacts on it and ways to enhance it. She is particularly interested in this field given her clinical social work background, her years as an welfare tutor and her being a qualified wellbeing professional.
Athina has also explored the impact that clinical communication teaching has on students’ confidence levels when they communicate with patients and she is currently leading the evaluation of the Clinical Communication curriculum at ICSM. She has also explored the use of peer tutors and peer support in medical education (pre-clinical and clinical years).
Her research also explores patients’ experiences from interactions with healthcare professionals and provision of services, as well as patients’ views on what would contribute to better wellbeing. One of her current projects focuses on designing an education programme to support living and well-being of people with a renal transplant (collaboration with Dr L. Johansson).
Collaborations:
Athina has also been involved and has ongoing collaborations with colleagues from Imperial, including Prof A. McGregor, Prof C. Alexander, Dr L. Johansson, Dr R. Patel & Dr P. Strutton.
She has also been involved in the Pilot Registry for the Investigation and Prevention of Alzheimer’s disease (RIPA).
