RESEARCH
His research interests focus on interventional and structural cardiology, with three main pillars. First, he investigates outcomes and device selection in transcatheter aortic valve implantation, including comparative effectiveness of balloon-expandable versus self-expanding prostheses, outcomes of urgent versus elective TAVI, and the role of vascular closure devices for large-bore arterial access, through systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and registry-based studies. Second, he led the INSPIRE randomised controlled trial investigating nickel hypersensitivity following percutaneous patent foramen ovale closure, exploring its impact on device syndrome, atrial fibrillation, and clinical outcomes . Third, he is actively involved in research on coronary physiology and intracoronary imaging, antiplatelet therapy optimisation after percutaneous coronary interventions , and the application of digital health innovations including artificial intelligence in cardiovascular diagnostics and virtual-reality-enhanced multidisciplinary heart teams.
