About my role:
As Communications and Events Officer for the Department of Bioengineering, I manage and deliver communications, digital content, and event activities that support the department’s research, education, and community.
My work includes internal and external communications, content development, social media, website management, event communications and delivery, brand management, campaign planning and stakeholder advice. I also develop tools, resources and processes that help colleagues communicate more effectively and improve how departmental communications and events are planned and delivered.
My work includes:
- Planning and delivering internal and external communications campaigns
- Advising colleagues and senior stakeholders on communications planning, audiences, channels and messaging
- Writing, editing and producing news, features and digital content, including translating complex research for different audiences
- Managing the department’s social media channels and content planning
- Producing the Bioengineering Good Newsletter and other internal communications
- Managing and developing the department’s website, including content governance and accessibility
- Planning and delivering major departmental events, including seminars, lectures, research events, away days and teaching-related events
- Managing event logistics, suppliers, venues, registration, communications and budgets
- Managing departmental branding and developing templates, guidance and promotional materials
- Developing communications systems and processes that improve information-sharing and departmental planning
- Monitoring engagement and using analytics and feedback to improve communications activity
- Maintaining departmental event listings and calendars

- Publicising research, awards, achievements and other departmental news
- Promoting seminars, lectures, conferences and other events
- Developing communications and marketing plans for projects, initiatives and campaigns
- Advising on audiences, messaging, channels and timing
- Writing, editing and improving copy for departmental communications
- Developing and updating content for the department’s website
- Planning social media content and identifying suitable opportunities for promotion
- Planning and delivering departmental events, including registration, communications and logistics
- Developing event communications, invitations, registration pages and attendee information
- Advising on departmental branding, templates and promotional materials
- Supporting internal communications, including newsletters, announcements and staff/student messaging
- Helping colleagues choose the most effective way to communicate with different departmental and external audiences
