DrAhmad Alkhatib

Dr Ahmad Alkhatib is a Research Associate specialising in the evaluation of environmental policies and interventions and their impacts on population health and inequalities. His work focuses on understanding how urban and environmental changes shape health outcomes, mobility behaviours, and equity across populations, using advanced quantitative and causal inference methods.
His current research centres on road safety, with an emphasis on how transport and environmental policies influence injury risk across different population groups and environments. Ahmad co-created a large-scale linked spatial, transport, and health dataset to evaluate road traffic injuries using quasi-experimental approaches, including matched control designs and staggered difference-in-differences. His ongoing work examines the impacts of Clean Air Zones (CAZs) and Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in the UK, focusing on how changes in traffic composition and travel behaviour affect injury outcomes, and whether these effects vary by deprivation, road user type, and surrounding areas.
Prior to this, Ahmad worked within the Data Science theme of the Applied Research Collaboration Northwest London (ARC-NWL), where he developed expertise in analysing Electronic Health Records for public health and healthcare system improvement. He led research projects evaluating unscheduled care demand, case mix, and pressures on NHS services, alongside work on adverse drug reactions and healthcare inequalities.
Ahmad contributes to collaborative research and supports teaching across programmes within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London.
