BIO

Abigail is a LISS DTP Postdoctoral Research Fellow working in the Centre for Higher Education and Scholarship at Imperial College London. She holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Cambridge based in the Centre for Neuroscience in Education (CNE), part of the Centre for Child, Adolescent and Family Research (CAFR) in the Department of Psychology. Abigail's doctoral thesis was focussed on Mathematics Anxiety in underrepresented secondary school pupils in England and fully-funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

Before starting her PhD, Abigail worked as a Research Assistant at various universities including UCL, RHUL, and Queen Mary University of London. She has also worked as an Assistant Psychologist within CAMHS Neurodevelopmental and Intellectual Disabilities services in Oxford Health NHS Trust and Acute Adult Mental Health services in Central and Northwest London (CNWL) NHS Trust.

During her fellowship at Imperial, Abigail aims to consolidate the substantial body of work she generated during her PhD to maximise its academic, policy, and societal impact in both the academic and real world. She will be working on producing publications from her thesis that together aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of maths anxiety in adolescents attending state secondary schools and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. These outputs will draw on different aspects of her mixed-methods doctoral research with a particular emphasis placed on understanding how maths anxiety may shape young people’s educational engagement and influence future participation in STEM pathways. She also plans to disseminate her findings in various formats including presenting at national and international conferences, and through stakeholder engagement such as schools, colleges and universities.
